The Shopping List

It is Saturday. Dan's wife, Kate, is sick in bed. “Can you go to the supermarket?” she asks. She gives him a shopping list.

Dan puts the list in his pocket and walks to the store. It is raining a lot.

At the supermarket, Dan takes out the list. Oh no! The paper is wet. He can't read the words very well.

The first word is “b...”. Is it bread? Is it bananas? Dan takes bread and bananas. The next word is “ch...”. Is it chicken? Is it cheese? Is it chocolate? He takes all three.

The last word is very long. Dan can't read it. Then he sees some flowers, and he buys them.

Dan walks home with two big bags. Kate looks at the bags. Then she looks at Dan.

“Dan, I only need three things,” she says. “Bread, cheese and toothpaste.”

“Toothpaste!” says Dan. “That is the long word!”

Kate laughs. Then she sees the flowers. “And the flowers?”

“The flowers are for you,” says Dan. “Because you are sick.”

Kate smiles. “Thank you. Now please go back for the toothpaste.”
