The Blue Hat

Tom is ten. He lives in a small house with his mom and his dog, Bo.

Tom has a blue hat. It is his favorite hat, and he wears it every day.

It's cold today. Tom wants his hat. But the hat isn't on his bed. It isn't on the table, and it isn't in the kitchen.

"Mom, where's my hat?" Tom asks.

"I don't know," Mom says. "Is it in the car?"

Tom goes to the car. There is a ball in the car, and there are two books. But there is no hat.

Tom isn't happy. His head is cold, and his ears are red.

Then Tom sees Bo. Bo is in the garden, under a big tree. He has something blue in his mouth.

Tom goes to the tree. It's his hat!

"Bo, that's my hat!" Tom says.

Bo looks up at Tom with big, sweet eyes. Tom laughs.

The hat is warm and soft, and Bo likes it. It is a good bed for a little dog.

Tom has an idea. He has an old blue sweater in his room. It is big, warm and soft. Tom puts the sweater under the tree for Bo.

Bo sees the sweater. He drops the hat, lies down on the sweater and falls asleep.

Tom has his hat back, and Bo has a new blue bed. Tom and Bo are happy.
